POMONA - It didn't pay to be leading at the halfway point of Sunday's Championship Off Road Racing series races at Fairplex.
In fact, it was better to be behind early after all three Pro winners - Scott Douglas in Pro 4, Rob MacCachren in Pro 2 and Rodrigo Ampudia in Pro-Lite - rallied from early deficits to score victories in their respective categories.
MacCachren, catching a break when leader Ricky Johnson suffered mechanical problems on lap 13, won for the second consecutive day and his fourth in six races at Fairplex.
"We came here and did what we wanted to do," MacCachren said. "We found our spot and just tried to hang on (during the first half). We were just waiting for that competition yellow and tried to just go get him, and it worked out."
MacCachren slipped by Johnson in turn 5 of lap 13 and slowly increased his advantage before beating Todd LeDuc by 3.560 seconds.
