Video: Star-News boys soccer player of the year
Who: Nick Posthuma
School: St. Francis
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
Notable: It didn't take long to find Posthuma on the field. He always found a way to be right in the thick of things en route to Star-News Player of the Year honors. The senior scored 21 goals and had eight assists to lead the Golden Knights to a 21-6-2 overall record and a Mission League championship.
He was selected as the Mission League Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team selection to the All-LA84 Division I first team. He celebrated his 18th birthday with a goal in sudden-death overtime to lift St. Francis to a 2-1 victory over Royal in the championship match of the Ralph Brandt Tournament. It was the kind of moment that Posthuma thrived.
Quotable: "We wanted to improve on last year, including the playoffs, and although we did about the same, overall it was a really good year."
