HIGH SCHOOLS: Pasadena Poly cancels today's game

Today's Pasadena Poly football game against Rio Hondo Prep has been canceled.

The game will not be made up, therefore giving the Kares (9-0, 4-0) a forfeit win.

Poly athletic director Steve Beerman made the decision to skip the game one week after sophomore Jackson Allan sustained a serious head injury in the final minutes against Chadwick. Allan was rushed to UCLA Harbor Medical Center, where he underwent brain surgery to relieve swelling and internal bleeding.

Allan's parents, Les and Rhonda, posted a message Friday afternoon on Facebook saying, "Jackson is breathing unaided. The breathing tube was removed just a little while ago. The doctors have said it will be a while before we know exactly how he is beyond clearing this most difficult initial period. He is still seriously ill (and) is sleeping pretty soundly."

The decision to not play came Friday morning.
