WHITTIER - Stormy Leyva's life changed July 5. And so did the lives of those at La Colima Elementary School. Thursday afternoon, the school's students, parents and staff did their part to get things back to normal. Led by parents Margaret Aguirre and Debbie Gonzalez, they held a car wash to raise money to help pay for medical costs Leyva, 25, has incurred as a result of a car accident involving an alleged drunk driver. "We were devastated," said Aguirre, fighting back tears as she took a break washing cars in the school's parking lot. They raised about $1,400. Leyva, who is named after a Carlos Santana song, suffered a fractured spine, brain swelling, fractured ribs and collapsed lungs when the car she was driving was struck by a 34-year-old Santa Fe Springs man, who police believe was drunk. http://pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_9987177   Read Full Article...
