Man killed after being hit by car

WHITTIER - A man was struck and killed by a driver about 9 p.m. in the 10800 block of Beverly Boulevard on Tuesday night.

According to Whittier police Officer Jason Zuhlke, the man was jaywalking from the north side of Beverly Boulevard toward a Baskin Robins. He was struck by a vehicle going eastbound and flew several feet. The driver stopped after the fatal collision and was not cited.

The County Coroner's Office said the victim has not yet been identified, but is a Latino in his 60s.

Firm fined in farm worker's death

FRESNO - The company that hired a pregnant teenager who died of heat stroke this spring after laboring in a Central Valley vineyard was hit Wednesday with the highest fine ever issued to a California farming operation.
