After playing five games in seven days, traveling from coast to coast with a stop in the middle of the country, Pau Gasol planned to spend Sunday watching football. He said he had no desire to pick up a basketball or even think about the Lakers' next game.
Lakers coach Phil Jackson gave the players the day off Sunday, hoping a day of inactivity would give them a chance to recharge their batteries in time to face the San Antonio Spurs tonight at Staples Center.
"Just chill, man, just chill," Gasol said of his plans for Sunday.
The past three weeks have been the Lakers' toughest stretch of games so far. They hit the road to play eight games in 12 nights, traveling from one chilly outpost to the next on a 7,200-mile trek that concluded Feb. 1 in Memphis.
Last week began in Boston for the Lakers, who then went to Memphis before returning home to play Charlotte and Denver before traveling to Portland to complete their only five-games-in-seven- nights stretch this season
