Virginia Madsen helps others see between the lines

Around the time of her Oscar nomination for "Sideways," Virginia Madsen was invited to attend a Botox party that a hairdresser friend was hosting at his salon.

The actress was, at this time, a faithful and publicly open user of the injectable muscle-relaxer, anti-wrinkle drug that her Beverly Hills doctor thought might also help treat her migraines, although it is yet to be approved by the Federal Drug Administration for such use. So when her friend promised there would be lots of drinking followed by injections of Botox for all, Madsen snapped, "Are you out of your mind?"

"Would you get dental work done in a place where people go to get their toenails polished? I wouldn't," she told him.

The safety concern over which Madsen - the 45-year-old star of the forthcoming supernatural thriller "A Haunting in Connecticut" - lectured her friend is what drives her newfound role as spokeswoman for "Keep the Wisdom.
