Agave nectar-sweetened ice cream becomes a hot item

LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE - Stacey Ralphs and Jean Zwarg are rapidly achieving success - one scoop at a time.

A year ago the entrepreneurs launched Agave Dream, a La Cañada Flintridge business that sells ice cream sweetened with agave nectar. And sales have been good. In fact, their products are already on the shelf at many Whole Foods markets and at other boutique ice cream shops.

"We both have children and we wanted something that still tasted like ice cream but was healthier," said Ralphs, 43, who lives in La Cañada Flintridge. "The problem was there was nothing out there. There are a lot of non-dairy products, but they taste ice-milky."

The pair spent a lot of time experimenting until they found the perfect blend for their "peace of mind indulgence." And some of these ice creams are not your average flavors.
