Much talk, little action as winter meetings open

INDIANAPOLIS . In a town known for fast moves around the speedway, baseball's wheelers and dealers were slowly mulling their options at the winter meetings.

Roy Halladay, Curtis Granderson and Dan Uggla were some of the big names being dangled on the trade market as baseball's annual swapfest opened Monday. Toronto appeared to be moving quite deliberately in talks involving Halladay, the much-coveted 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner.

Nothing's happened. If he comes to a team in our division, I would be interested. He's really good, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said.

The Red Sox did make a minor move. Right-hander Scott Atchison has agreed to a one-year contact after spending the last two seasons with Hanshin of Japan's Central League.

Atchison was 12-9 with a 2.77 ERA in 117 relief appearances, going 5-3 with a 1.70 ERA in 75 games this year. The 33-year-old is 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA in 53 games with Seattle (2004-05) and San Francisco (2007)   Read Full Article...
