Before Saturday afternoon's 3-2 shootout loss at the hands of the soon-to-be road weary Vancouver Canucks (fourth of a 14-game road trip thanks to the Olympic preparations), Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien looked like a man under siege. He was surrounded by media, up against the cinder-block wall of the TD Garden hallway, for his pre-game press briefing. He was asked almost immediately about his so-called defensive-oriented system and if he was tempted to change it.

I don't know, Julien said. I mean, everything comes into question when you're not winning. Our forecheck is much better, our attack is much better. I don't know. Hey, it's out there - supposedly we're a defensive oriented team and we sit back. Well, so be it. We watch video every day and you see teams that send one forechecker up and four guys back at the blue line, and hey, they win hockey games and we don't do that.
