MERRIMACK - Getting voter feedback on the School District budget hasn't always been a piece of cake.
Outside of flying an airplane with a banner, I've done everything I could to try to encourage the public to come out and let us know what they think, said Stan Heinrich, Budget Committee chairman. But they rarely showed up.
Not so this year.
Eighteen teaching and staff positions have been cut from next year's spending proposal, a move that has drawn plenty of people to recent Budget Committee hearings.
I ran out of chairs last week, Heinrich said, referring to a late January meeting in which 70 people showed up. Tonight, voters will have another chance to let their voices be heard as the committee hosts the School District's official budget hearing.
The debate has centered largely on a team of four middle school teaching positions that the School Board - on a vote of 3-2 - squeezed from the budget in December
