PRESS RELEASE - Attorney General Michael Delaney announced that state negotiators and FairPoint Communications have reached an agreement addressing FairPoint's future commitments to consumers in New Hampshire. The agreement largely leaves intact the major provisions of the 2008 Public Utilities Commission Order authorizing the transfer of assets from Verizon Communications to FairPoint Communications. The agreement was filed earlier today with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and will be filed with the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission for review and approval.
On October 26, 2009, FairPoint Communications filed a bankruptcy petition with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The Attorney General's Office has been actively involved in the bankruptcy proceeding on behalf of the State to ensure the bankruptcy proceedings do not adversely affect New Hampshire consumers
