Ontario leaders seeking more options for airport -

Ontario officials have been asked more than once why they haven't tried to take back Ontario International Airport from its city of Los Angeles ownership.

The answer was always easy for Councilman Alan Wapner, who saw all the tax revenue and benefits of an airport without the liabilities and risk of running it.

Now, for the first time, Wapner, city officials and staff are taking the question seriously. Comments made at a recent Los Angeles World Airports meeting have led Ontario leaders to believe that the agency's focus is solely on increasing air traffic at LAX, not Ontario International. LAWA owns and operates both airports.

"If they aren't able to maintain duel focus, then it really does put the relationship in question," said Ontario City Manager Greg Devereaux, in a recent interview.
