Expect retailers to go slow when it comes to adding holiday help this year. Even if more people get hired this year compared with last -- not a difficult feat, considering only about 700 seasonal jobs were added in the Inland Empire last year -- competition for those openings will be more intense, and cautious employers will readjust their hiring throughout the season to match store traffic trends.
Experts expect more hiring than last year not only at stores, but also shipping companies, distribution centers, catering facilities and entertainment sites.
With Inland unemployment topping 14 percent, more local job hunters this year will be competing for what few spots are open.
When Lake Elsinore Outlets recently posted a notice on its LED freeway sign that it was looking to fill some office support positions, including customer service, security and maintenance slots, it was deluged with more than a thousand applications for a total of nine open jobs
