A Santa Clarita man was arrested today for allegedly growing about 200 marijuana plants at his home, the sheriff's department reported.
Sonny Greenback, 51, was taken into custody after deputies went to the 22000 block of Alamogordo Road at about 7 a.m., said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
Greenback allegedly was growing the plants, collectively worth about $200,000 indoors, and had bypassed the electrical meters to power grow lights, Harris said.
Investigators went to the location after receiving anonymous tips from neighbors, who noticed the "strong odor of marijuana and several air- conditioning units running non-stop, night and day," the sergeant said.
Greenback was booked on suspicion of felony marijuana cultivation and theft of electricity. His bail was set at $430,000, Harris said.
