Sandra J. Bishop takes over Valley Interfaith Council

CHATSWORTH - Sandra J. Bishop barely had a spare minute during her first week as the president of Valley Interfaith Council, the San Fernando Valley's nondenominational social services agency.

The Sacramento native got a crash course on the nonprofit agency from Barry Smedberg, who retired from that post in 2006 after 18 years. That included a tour of VIC's four adult-day-support centers, and briefings on its Meals on Wheels program and transportation service for seniors.

She also learned about VIC's assistance with the Valley's coalition of 18 food pantries and its interfaith education programs.

"Sandy is a gem. She has a good grasp of the situation here," said Smedberg, who filled in after Bishop's predecessor, Cambria Smith, left in early August to become a pastoral associate at Holy Family Parish in South Pasadena.

"Her background with a food bank and a senior's concerns group will come in handy. She loves the fact that we're multifaceted." Smedberg said   Read Full Article...
