Fresh off its Mission League baseball championship and No. 1 seed in the Southern Section Div. III playoffs, about the only concern for Crespi of Encino was a possible letdown against Gahr of Cerritos in its first-round matchup Thursday.
Turns out, Crespi had nothing to worry about.
The Celts won 8-0 behind another dominant performance from starter Tyler Johnson, who kept his perfect career record intact (now 20-0) while pitching five innings and yielding two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.
"When I get on the hill, the record is not really in my mind," Johnson said. "It's really just a side fact. I am only trying to throw my best pitches. Everything was working well today. Fastball and curveball. I felt in midseason form."
The Celts (23-5) took control early, scoring two runs - without the aid of a hit - in the first inning, then adding three in the second, one in the fourth and two more in the sixth on two singles and a triple
