On a day when several swimmers had to balance taking advanced placement exams with competing in the City Section prelims, a young Cleveland of Reseda girls' team might have passed its biggest test by avoiding any miscues Wednesday.
A year after finishing fourth at the City final, the Cavaliers put themselves in position to capture their first title since 2005 with several strong performances from underclassmen at AAF/John C. Argue Swim Stadium.
As for the Cleveland boys' team, its biggest challenge in pursuit of a third consecutive championship might be remaining focused for another week.
Cleveland has captured a City title in each of the past four seasons, but never swept both championships. Standing in the Cavaliers' way next Wednesday will be 18-time champion Palisades of Pacific Palisades in the girls' competition and San Pedro in the boys' meet.
