Edgar Olmos is a top pitcher who doesn't get much publicity. A 6-foot-5 left-hander with a great fastball, Olmos is 8-5 with a sub-2.00 ERA but is laboring for up-and-down Birmingham of Lake Balboa (10-16), which happens to compete in the West Valley League, perhaps the City Section's most competitive division, so Olmos and his teammates forever live in the shadow of annual powers Chatsworth, El Camino Real of Woodland Hills and Cleveland of Reseda.
The other pitchers in Birmingham's rotation have combined for two victories.
"Edgar is a phenomenal pitcher. He has carried our team since the beginning of the year," teammate Vince Chavan said. "He's got great stuff, a great slider and curveball and good zip on his fastball. Plus, he hits real well."
Birmingham probably will fall into the City Invitational bracket when the seedings are announced Saturday, and with Olmos on the mound the Patriots always have a good chance to win
