One year after a shocking upset loss in the City Section softball quarterfinals, Krista Cobb made sure the same thing did not happen again Tuesday.
The standout pitcher from El Camino Real of Woodland Hills threw a no-hitter and struck out 13 in a 2-1 victory over visiting Banning of Wilmington, boosting the Conquistadores into the semifinals for the 14th time over the past 15 seasons.
"We were more intense than ever because of what happened last year," Cobb said. "We didn't want the season to end in the quarterfinals again. This is amazing because we wanted this win a lot."
El Camino Real (27-7) faces Kennedy of Granada Hills on in the semifinals Monday at South Gate Park.
Cobb (24-6) got into trouble only in the sixth inning, when Banning (25-8) loaded the bases on two walks and an infield error, then another walk to Christina Chavez with one out to push home a run
