The Granada Hills boys' volleyball team went into one of the toughest gyms to play in on Tuesday and looked poised to pull off an upset.
But after winning the first game of its City Championship semifinal match against Palisades, the Highlanders found out why the Dolphins are undefeated.
Palisades, the No. 2 seed, rebounded from a surprisingly slow start and eliminated third-seeded Granada Hills 13-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22.
Palisades improved to 18-0 and will play No. 9 seed El Camino Real on Saturday at Cal State Northridge.
When Granada Hills jumped on top to win the first game, it marked a rare occasion. The Dolphins are usually the early aggressors.
But even that turned out to be a positive for Palisades.
"I'm happy it happened that way," Palisades coach Chris Forrest said. "Give Granada a lot of credit, they really shell-shocked us. But we showed we can step up and take it to the next level."
