Westlake's Aislinn Smalling and Thousand Oaks' Camille Duckett have produced some of the most memorable moments in Marmonte League swimming history.
The Cal Poly-bound Duckett captured her first Southern Section Div. II title last year in the 100-yard freestyle, while Smalling anchored the Warriors' victorious 200 free relay and led Westlake to its first team championship.
They staged a brilliant battle in the 200 free at the teams' annual dual meet April 11, with the Princeton-bound Smalling prevailing 1:51.87 to 1:51.93. They squared off again at the May 1 league finals, with Smalling also emerging victorious.
But the finest moment in their racing careers might have occurred Saturday, when Duckett held off a late charge from Smalling to win the 200 free title 1:49.36 to 1:49.48, the closest margin of victory in any girls' race at the Div. II final.
The two standouts will square off for the final time in their high school careers at 5p.m
