Simi Valley softball is a top seed flying under the radar

For the third year in a row, an area team received the top seed in the Southern Section Div. I softball playoffs.

But unlike the Jordan Taylor-led Valencia teams of the past two years, Simi Valley (27-0) has received little fanfare in pursuit of its first division title since 1993.

"I'm happy and sad that we aren't being recognized," Simi Valley senior shortstop Sam Fischer said. "But we're so used to proving everybody wrong that even if we get to the finals, people will still be doubting us. We figure we've won 27 times in a row, so what's four more?"

When Valencia captured its first Div. I title last year, the Vikings ended up as the top-ranked team in the state according to Cal-Hi Sports and the mythical national champion by Student Sports Softball and Rivals.com.
