Crespi High of Encino is riding an eight-game winning streak, including a two-game sweep over rival Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks last week to finish the regular season, and the Celts are hoping they have a proper supply of momentum heading into the Southern Section Div. III baseball playoffs.
Pairings were released Monday, and Crespi is seeded No. 1 and Notre Dame is No. 2.
Crespi's Zack Wiley believes the Celts, who open Thursday at 3:15 p.m. against either Gahr of Cerritos or West Valley of Hemet, have what it takes to go all the way.
"When you're facing elimination, it always gets teams hyped up, so the anxiety builds," Wiley said. "You just have to stay calm and play your best."
Wiley and his teammates are keen not to make a big deal of being the top seed, though they're honored to be in such a position.
"Being No. 1 is pretty cool, I guess, but it doesn't really mean anything," Wiley said
