Thousands of people crowded fireworks shows, romped along beaches and waded in pools during the Southland's warm Fourth of July holiday.
As sunset approached at Porter Ranch, tens of thousands lined the parking lot of Shepherd of the Hills Church, waiting for a jaw-dropping, 25-minute fireworks show.
"It's packed; it's looking like the biggest Fourth of July spectacular event yet," said Carrie Spencer, a church spokeswoman, as she surveyed the festive scene while sunset drew near.
"People are setting up camp, pulling their chairs out with their sun visors on and putting up tents," she said.
The church hosts one of the city's most well-attended shows. The rain of colorful sparks can be seen across the Valley basin.
By 5:30 p.m. 30,000 had gathered, from eager teenagers to older couples.
Despite the crowds, Los Angeles police said there were no major incidents there or across the Valley as of 6 p.m. Friday
