Pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran shows services can be fun

GRANADA HILLS - For more than 40 years, Bethlehem Lutheran Church has been a nice little neighborhood church.

But then the Rev. Jeffrey Nelson was installed and his very first Sunday sermon last May was all about changes to come.

Happily, the congregation approves.

"To be a Christian is to embrace change. We should be known as people of change because that's what happens when you have any encounter with God," said Nelson.

The church, already known in the neighborhood for its preschool, has plans to introduce its beloved music ministry in a community concert.

"We're interested and excited to be looking outward and not just being a little neighborhood church," said Sue Akin, church administrator for Bethlehem Lutheran and a member for more than 11 years.
