Girl Scout toy drive aims to lift spirits of the ill

AGOURA HILLS - A local Girl Scouts camp is collecting toys and clothing for sick children to help cheer them up while also working on their motor skills.

The Cool of the Night Girl Scout day camp will accept donations 1-7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Chumash Park in a collection box near the restrooms.

"This is the first year we decided to incorporate a community service project," said camp adviser Alyssa Selogie.

"I thought let's take it one step further and try to get the local community involved."

Selogie said most of the girls live in a fairly affluent neighborhood and this will provide them with the opportunity to give back to the less fortunate.

"It also makes them realize that no matter what they do, they can make a difference."

Childrens Hospital Los Angeles gives out between 500 and 700 toys a week to its patients. All of the clothes and toys must be new, in the original package and not gift-wrapped   Read Full Article...
