When Janet Evans and I got on the phone to talk last week, among the topics we had planned to discuss was her progress on NBC's reality show "Celebrity Circus."
But the night before our interview, Janet had been shockingly eliminated during week three of competition. This despite a very strong performance the week before on the flying silks.
I've been watching the show - which has an eclectic group of celebrities perform circus acts for audience votes - and said to her emphatically: "You were robbed!"
The three-time U.S. Olympian seemed to agree but still tried to be diplomatic.
"Obviously, I was a little disappointed because I thought my performance was good on the second show," Janet said. "But it was a good experience. I wanted to prove to my little girl that she could do anything she set her mind to. I enjoyed myself and I learned I could do something else besides swim."
But boy, can she swim
