Ninth-graders to be arraigned in case involving unconscious girls

One teenage boy was charged with rape and another with sexual battery Monday in connection with an assault on at least one of three ninth-grade girls found unconscious at a Chatsworth park last week.

Both boys - a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old - are set to be arraigned today in Sylmar Juvenile Court, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The 15-year-old from Canoga Park faces five felony charges: sodomy of an unconscious victim, rape by use of a drug, rape of an unconscious person, sexual penetration by a foreign object of an unconscious person, and sexual penetration by a foreign object of a drugged victim. The 16-year-old faces a misdemeanor count of sexual battery.

Neither boy is likely to be tried as an adult, Gibbons said.
