Chamber to honor Maltese for work in child education

Joan Maltese, an award-winning clinical psychologist who co-founded the Child Development Institute, will be honored Thursday by the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce with its Unforgettable Educator Award.

Her work with at-risk infants and their families previously earned Maltese a place on the San Fernando Valley's Walk of Hearts, which recognizes excellence in education.

She has also received commendations from numerous other organizations, including the National Institute of Mental Health and the California Department of Mental Health.

In addition to serving as executive director of the Child Development Institute, Maltese is on the faculty of California State University, Northridge, where she developed the Graduate Certificate Program in Infant-Toddler-Family Mental Health.
