Scout exec charged in child-porn case
A volunteer Boy Scout district commissioner from the San Fernando Valley appeared in court Thursday on charges of possession of child pornography in a case that originated with a tip from an online service company, prosecutors said.
Gerald Frederick Curland, 63, of Valley Village is a volunteer commissioner for the Cahuenga District and a freelance marketing consultant, Deputy District Attorney Marc Beaart said.
Curland was arrested Tuesday by the Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Unit, which investigated the tip after America Online notified authorities that it had captured one image of child pornography in an e-mail attachment allegedly sent by Curland, Beaart said.
Evidence seized at Curland's home led to the filing of the two charges, and authorities were examining the material seized.
Prosecutors want Curland's bail set at $40,000
