Hart school district will cut 44 jobs - Positions are support staff posts, most of which are now vacant

SANTA CLARITA - The William S. Hart Union High School District board has decided to cut 44 support-staff positions because of state budget cuts - although only 10 current employees are expected to face layoffs.

Most of the other 34 positions are currently vacant or held by temporary employees.

The district will begin sending out notification letters to employees 45 days before the new fiscal year starts July 1.

Although specific positions will be cut, senior employees can move to other open spots within the district.

"It is our responsibility to maintain the hours of anyone being displaced, based on their seniority," said Terri Shiner, the district's director of classified personnel, who has been meeting with employees about potential cuts since early March.

Ten employees - six instructional assistants, two custodians, a program assistant and a clerk/typist - do not have the seniority to be reassigned, Shiner said   Read Full Article...
