Daniel Lorona knows fear.
While deployed in Iraq in 2007, the 23-year-old Marine sergeant from Reseda was injured during a fierce enemy engagement, and earned a Purple Heart, a Combat Action Ribbon and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device for the heroics he displayed that day.
But as Lorona sheepishly reveals, he's much more fearful about what he'll face this weekend than going to battle with his fellow Marines.
As frightened as he has been at times in combat situations, he insists he'll be more intimidated when he and a fellow warrior represent the Marine Corps during a series of events over Super Bowl XLIV weekend in Miami.
Lorona beat out a number of other Marines for the honor, and he'll spend today hobnobbing at various tailgate parties before attending the actual game.
