It's that old political game: What if?

With District Attorney Steve Cooley considering a run for the Republican nomination for attorney general, it has set off a new round of the "what if" game around City Hall.

As in, what if Cooley actually wins the job.

The latest odds are that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich would run for Cooley's job. If he wins, it would leave an opening for new Councilman Paul Krekorian to run for city attorney - a job that could eventually lead to the Mayor's Office.

Krekorian, in his first week as a City Council member, shook his head at the speculation.

"I've just been here a week and am still learning my way around," he said. "I have no plans to run for city attorney. I've learned in this business you never rule out options, but I'm looking first at re-election campaign for this seat. This is where I want to be."
