Haig Keropian, a former editorial page editor for the Daily News, died Tuesday in Van Nuys. He was 91.
Keropian worked for the paper from 1962 to 1985, through its transition from a small, free publication to a seven-day-a-week daily. He also served two terms as president of the Los Angeles Press Club.
He loved journalism and often spoke fondly of his days at the paper, his family said. He also enjoyed helping students learn the craft and over the years got involved in academic programs at several local universities.
"My grandfather dedicated his professional life to journalism and the power of words, expression and a free press," said his grandson, Cory Danziger of Encino.
"The Daily News and the staff Haig worked with for more than 20 years provided some of the happiest memories of his life."
Keropian was born in Watervliet, N.Y., and educated at Columbia College in Chicago and the University of Southern California
