FRAZIER PARK - Ventura County sheriff's deputies have arrested three family members suspected of allowing horses to starve at their Southern California ranch.
Sheriff's Capt. Ross Bonfiglio said Joan Bor, her son Ernie Bor and his wife, Cecela Bor, were arrested Wednesday after deputies served a search warrant at the Cochema Ranch near Frazier Park. They were booked for investigation of felony animal cruelty and held on $10,000 bail each.
Bonfiglio said the ranch came under investigation after neighbors complained that some horses were malnourished and neglected.
Authorities removed 14 of more than 100 horses at the ranch last week, and one of them had to be euthanized after it collapsed.
Joan Bor denies that the horses were neglected. She said her son bought several of the thinnest horses recently to prevent them from being killed and that others were simply ill.
