PORTER RANCH - Monday's news of an out-of-work San Fernando Valley financial analyst killing his wife, three sons and mother-in-law before committing suicide offered a chilling symbol of the nation's economic crisis.
Police said Karthik Rajaram, 45, who had worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Sony Pictures, killed his wife, Subasri, 39, their three sons - Krishna, 19, an honors economics student at UCLA; Ganesha, 12; and Arjuna, 7 - and his 69-year-old mother-in-law, Indra Ramasesham, and then himself some time after 6p.m. Saturday.
"I knew he was having problems getting another job, but wow," said former business acquaintance Mark Crockett of Holladay, Utah. "It's sad to hear this."
Los Angeles police Deputy Chief Michel Moore attributed the killings to Rajaram's inability to deal with financial ruin. "This is an absolute terrible tragedy," Moore said
