MALIBU - The without-a-trace 2007 disappearance of Robert and Barbara Callender of Simi Valley led to a gruesome scenario of how they might have been killed in a case authorities now believe to have been a double homicide.
A 1999 Jeep Cherokee belonging to the Callenders was hoisted from the bottom of a 700-foot cliff on Malibu Canyon Road by sheriff's deputies using a sky hook helicopter crane, while a second sheriff's helicopter hovered nearby as deputies videotaped the operation.
The salvage of the vehicle came just two days after investigators revealed that what had first appeared an accident is now believed to be a homicide.
Robert Callender, 63, owned the Burbank-based information technology support company ISSG.
The company, which provided temporary technical staff to more than 200 clients including computer network equipment maker Cisco Systems, closed shortly after his disappearance
