VENTURA - Two men who were robbed at knifepoint early Saturday morning later gave chase to the robbers, possibly forcing them to give up on a another mugging attempt, Ventura police said.
The victims-turned-pursuers crashed into a parked van during the chase and had to give up when their own vehicle stopped running.
The two victims, both Ventura residents, were walking along Santa Clara Street around 1:30 a.m. when the two suspects approached, according to Sgt. Brock Avery.
One had a knife and held it to the chest of one man and demanded their wallets. One victim handed over an empty wallet and a cell phone and the other gave up a cigarette.
After the suspects fled, the victims jumped into their own car and tried to track them down, spotting them at Santa Clara and Laurel Street as they were attempting to rob another pedestrian.
The victims chased the suspects by car, but lost control and collided with a parked van. They continued chasing until their car stopped running
