FORT BRAGG, N.C. - The military is investigating the death of a soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division who collapsed during physical training.
The Army said in a statement Saturday that 44-year-old Staff Sgt. Huy Nguyen, of Inglewood, died Friday.
A cause of death has not been determined, the military said.
Nguyen was a CH-47 Helicopter Flight Engineer with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
He joined the division earlier this month and joined the Army in 1996.
First Sgt. Reginald Thomas says Nguyen's peers admired him for his ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
Nguyen's awards include the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Afghan Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
