LANCASTER - A female Brinks armored-car guard fired shots at two suspects involved in a botched robbery Thursday and hit one of them, sheriff's deputies said.
The suspects confronted the guard about 10 a.m. at a shopping mall in the 43500 block of Gadsden Avenue and sprayed her face with pepper spray, causing her to drop an empty money bag.
After she fired twice, one of the men grabbed the empty bag and ran into a nearby apartment complex, and the other ran toward Avenue K and got into a waiting vehicle containing two women.
Using eyewitness information, deputies found the suspect vehicle and arrested the man and two women.
Hours later deputies were notified by Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills that a man was undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound.
Deputies confirmed the man was the second suspect, and he was also arrested.
