Ellen Burstyn just isn't the kind of actress who, when you encounter her on a red carpet, you ask something silly like, "Who are you wearing?"
It happened last week at a brunch event in Denver during the Democratic National Convention.
I was standing next to a woman who wanted to know all about Miss Burstyn's wardrobe for the week and what went into her selection process. She tried to be a good sport, shrugged her shoulders and finally said, "I pick whatever's comfortable."
When I got the chance to ask her some questions, fashion was the last thing on my mind. I wondered whether she ever dreamed she would be this much in demand at this point in her career - 34 years after she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as a spunky widow in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore."
"No, absolutely not," she said. "Because I've gone through different periods in my career when I have not been in demand. It surprises me now that I'm working more than I have ever worked in my life
