Nervous, eh?
Nobody knew what to expect from Kobe Bryant on Wednesday night. Not really.
Play? Everyone knew Kobe would play. Everyone, anyway, who's ever seen Kobe on a basketball court. Even those who just can't help themselves, finding fault in most everything Kobe does, would have to admit he's the ultimate gamer.
But play and be effective? Play and be able to make a real jump shot? Get lift? Actually be able to play above the rim?
The lower back that flared up on him in Game 4 Sunday in Utah was one of those nervous, unclear injuries. His not practicing the next two days only added to the uncertainty, the mystery.
For their part, the Lakers had played it cool on the hot Kobe topic. A lot of shrugging by coach Phil Jackson. A lot of faith he would be game-ready by Wednesday from teammates.
"We haven't talked about it as a team," said Jackson, donning his best Alfred E. Newman expression
