CARSON - The Galaxy played a team named after an energy drink Saturday.
But L.A. might have needed one instead.
The New York Red Bulls defeated the Galaxy 2-1 in front of 27,000 at the Home Depot Center because L.A. fell asleep at the worst possible moment.
While the Galaxy was still giddy after tying the score in the 77th minute, the defense experienced a major lapse a minute later and allowed former Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel to get past the back line and fire home the winner.
That was enough to send the Galaxy below .500 (2-3-1) for the season, a poor start for a team that played four of its first six games at home.
"I'm starting to see in the MLS there isn't much consistency," Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said.
Galaxy coach Ruud Gullit actually criticized his star and said Beckham played too much of the game out of position.
"He played too far up (the field)," Gullit said. "(Beckham played himself) out of the game
