Galaxy looking for faster start this season

Once again, the Galaxy will be waiting for David Beckham and Landon Donovan.

This time, the team knows how to deal with the late-arriving stars.

"I wouldn't say we weren't calm last year, I would say everything was pretty much a mystery," coach Bruce Arena said Wednesday. "We didn't know a lot about our team. Coming into this season, we know a lot more and we have a more dedicated roster this year than we had last year."

A year ago, as Arena put his building blocks into place, the team started the season in March, didn't get its first win until May and didn't win again for a month.

Somehow the Galaxy reached the MLS Cup, where it lost in a shootout to Real Salt Lake.

So now they hope experience and that bitter pill are enough to push the Galaxy toward another championship run.
