Afraid to party?
Don't be. Put together a chic cocktail party, birthday fete, Caribbean mood dinner or rustic Italian buffet without killing yourself.
It can be done, say the pros. And by pros, we mean Mark Held and Richard David, the men behind world-renowned floral wonderland Mark's Garden of Sherman Oaks, and Peggy Dark, the founder of Pasadena's The Kitchen for Exploring Foods, one of Southern California's go-to caterers.
They've teamed up to feature 20 achievable themed parties in their new book "Fabulous Parties: Food and Flowers for Elegant Entertaining" (Ryland, Peters and Small; $35). It's an inspiring volume with a wealth of color photographs - taken on location in homes throughout Los Angeles with Dark and her staff responsible for the food and Held and David handling the floral arrangements and decor - and creative ideas that draw on their many years of expertise creating lavish affairs.
