Ducks' penalty kill comes to life

ANAHEIM - Rob Niedermayer was back on a plane Saturday morning for the first time all month. Not to see a physician, not to take a vacation, but to join his Ducks teammates in Dallas after they kept their season alive with a win in Game 5 of their first-round series Friday night.

Niedermayer's season might have been over after concussion-like symptoms forced him to stay home while the Ducks split two games in Dallas.

The checking-line specialist is still listed as day-to-day, but at least he'll be in the building if cleared to play in Game 6 tonight against the Stars.

Even without Niedermayer, the Ducks turned in their best penalty-killing performance of the playoffs Friday in a must- win game. The Stars were unable to score in seven power- play chances, spanning 13 minutes, as the Ducks won 5-2.
