Ducks open playoffs with 4-0 loss

J.S. Giguere and the Ducks looked like anything but defending Stanley Cup champions in their 4-0 series-opening loss to the Dallas Stars Thursday night at the Honda Center. Game 2 is Saturday night. . 1 »

ANAHEIM - You wouldn't have known the Ducks had serious issues for the first 11 minutes, 25 seconds of Thursday's Stanley Cup playoff opener against the Dallas Stars. They took eight shots to the Stars' two, the puck rarely left the offensive zone, and the 17,191 paid fans at Honda Center rarely sat down.

Then, with a flick of the wrist by Stephane Robidas, the bubble of confidence surrounding the defending Stanley Cup champions shattered on their way to a 4-0 loss.

Steve Ott deflected Robidas' shot from the boards past Jean-Sebastien Giguere. The Ducks gave up another power-play goal before the first period was over, and two more in the second. They didn't take a shot for a 19-minute stretch spanning the two periods.
