Ducks send Kings into offseason with loss

For the Kings, Saturday afternoon's game marked the end, the conclusion of another disappointing season and perhaps the end, period, for two of their players. For the Ducks, it's only the beginning.

Teemu Selanne scored two goals for the Ducks, who beat the Kings 4-3 in front of 18,118 at Staples Center and are headed to the playoffs as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, to face Dallas.

The playoffs begin Wednesday, with the Ducks attempting to become the first team since Detroit, in 1998, to repeat as Stanley Cup champions.

The Kings? They couldn't even win by losing. The Kings finished the season with 71points, tied with Tampa Bay for fewest in the NHL, but because the Kings had one more victory than the Lightning, Tampa Bay will have the best chance to land the No. 1 draft pick when the NHL conducts its lottery Monday.
