ANAHEIM -- Only a hardcore Ducks fan would remember the name Mathieu Poitras. The goaltender was in rookie camp four years ago with Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Chris Kunitz and Dustin Penner, among others.
After he didn't make the team, Poitras went back to McGill University in Montreal and was close to completing his degree in mechanical engineering when the Ducks rushed him back yesterday to suit up for today's practice.
"We feel we need a third goalie for practice as we go forward," head coach Randy Carlyle said, "and all our (minor-league) goaltenders under contract are still playing."
Because a team is only allowed four non-emergency minor-league recalls during the year, the team didn't want to bring Jean-Sebastien Aubin back from Portland. The Ducks' affiliate in the American Hockey League finishes its regular season April 11, and will begin its Calder Cup playoff schedule thereafter
